Poultry Feed & Treats

While a clean coop and regular maintenance are key for raising happy chickens, nothing makes your chickens happier or healthier than the food they eat. From baby chicks to fully-grown birds, we have products to help nurture your chickens in every stage of life.

Chicken Feed for All Life Stages

Much like humans, chickens are often healthiest when their diet consists of five basic nutrients: carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, minerals and fats. However, one size doesn’t fit all when it comes to poultry feed; some chickens require different types and amounts of nutrients depending on their breed and stage of life. Keeping this in mind, most poultry feeds are curated based on five primary stages of life: starter, grower, layer, breeder and maintenance.

  • Starter: Starter feeds should be packed with vitamins and nutrients to help your chicks grow in their first eight weeks of life. Good starter feeds can support bone health and immunity, which can help your chicks to grow into healthy and happy adult birds.

  • Grower: After eight weeks, chicks are considered pullets, so you may consider transitioning them to grower feed. By this stage, the chicks’ growth rate will begin to slow, so the amount of protein and calcium in the poultry feed should be a bit lower than that of the starter feed. Grower feed is suitable for chicks up to 16 weeks old.

  • Layer: After week 16, your hens may be ready to lay eggs. If this is the case, you should transition your pullet to layer feed. This kind of feed is rich in protein and calcium, which can help your laying hens to produce hardy and healthy eggs.

  • Breeder: While layer feeds are designed for hens that are producing edible eggs, breeder feeds are best suited for hatching eggs. Breeder feed has slightly more protein and vitamins, as it helps to nourish the growing chicklet.

  • Maintenance: If you have non-laying chickens, a maintenance feed may be the best choice for your chickens. This poultry feed has all of the typical vitamins and nutrients but contains less calcium. Often, maintenance feed is paired with chicken scratch which can help to supplement your chickens’ diet.

Chicken Treats for All Diets

Everyone needs a special treat every now and then, and chickens are no exception. Poultry treats are a great way to add some variety to your bird's diet and can encourage natural behaviors such as foraging and pecking. For a high-protein treat option, consider chicken treats such as mealworms, crickets and block chicken snacks. Popcorn, cracked corn, peas,  watermelon seeds, squash seeds, and other grains and seeds can make for great chicken treats.
